BIOGRAPHY
Belinda Tigell is a Toowoomba based
singer songwriter who delights in inspiring and encouraging and engaging with others with her tunes and lyrics.
Belinda Tigell is a Toowoomba-based singer/songwriter who enjoys crafting meaningful, story-woven lyrics with engaging melodies and harmonies within the broader genre of contemporary folk pop...
Her first solo was at age 8 in a community hall in a township outside of Toowoomba, where she was invited back to perform year after year. As she matured, Belinda was often requested to sing in churches, special events and many weddings.
Growing up, Belinda was inspired by a variety of voices including Saudi Patty, Karen Carpenter and Evie Tornquist, and later those of Sarah Brightman, Adele, and Roma Waterman.
Belinda's vocal training has included classical, jazz, and contemporary. Her eclectic musical tastes have inspired her to explore different musical styles, rhythms, melodies, and vocal techniques in her songwriting, and her voice has been likened to that of Kate Bush and Joan Baez, while her story-telling has been likened to that of Joni Mitchell. Such ability to weave and create stories, and linguistic interest within her songs has led her to be regarded as somewhat of a wordsmith, with many commenting on her intricate and inspiring lyrics. Belinda crafts music with a message, aiming to foster compassion and connection in her community.
After singing in various capacities for countless years while working in other spheres, in 2009 Belinda decided to spend more concentrated time on her music and has since been travelling around, sharing her unique story and style in community events, many Christmas events, music and family festivals, private functions, churches and schools. In late 2014, she released her debut album of original songs, called ‘Jubilee'. Her work has received local press coverage and airplay across radio stations such as Aussie Grown, The Voice 92.9 and Sydney’s Hope 102.3.
Belinda’s performances have included Melbourne’s Forest Edge Music Festival, Easterfest, Toowoomba’s Streets & Lanes Festival, and Westbrook’s Family Fun Day. She has also been a guest performer at the University of Southern Queensland for Harmony Day and Peace Day celebrations and the Empire Theatre’s 20th Anniversary. Amongst her performances last year were events such as the Hands for the Homeless fundraising concert, Alloras’s Carols in the Country, Millmerran’s Family Fun Day and Toowoomba’s Family Week. Belinda was also a featured artist at the 2019 Gold Coast’s Buskers By The Creek festival.
Belinda looks forward to sharing her music with you!
